You could win travel costs to San Diego to attend IADR 2011

   

Wrigley Oral Healthcare Programs (WOHP) is partnering with the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Salivary Research Group (SRG) to launch the 2011 Wrigley Salivary Research Award to give young researchers and dental professionals the opportunity to attend and participate in the 2011 IADR General Session & Exhibition in San Diego, California.

  

Submit an abstract on salivary research and you could be one of three researchers awarded $1,500 USD or more to assist with travel costs to attend this premiere global dental research meeting, giving you a fantastic chance to network with key opinion leaders, experts and academics.

 

The awards include a Clinical Salivary Research Award and a Basic Salivary Research Award.

 

Each winner will be asked to present their scientific poster or give an oral presentation in a scheduled session at the IADR General Session & Exhibition.

 

This is a great opportunity to have your work validated through the peer-reviewed judging process as well as explore the exciting city of San Diego!

 

How to enter

–>Eligibility.

All applicants must be over 18 years of age and a member of the IADR. Applicants do not have to be members of the IADR Salivary Research Group (SRG). Applicants can be dental and non-dental students (undergraduate and graduate), as well as dentists involved in research and other dental scientists.

 

–>Abstract requirements.

 
The abstract must be within the Salivary Research area of study.
Submitted abstracts must be no more than 300 words in total and contain content under the following headings: introduction, methods, results and conclusion. The SRG program chair will confirm that the elements noted above are all included. If any of the noted pieces are missing, the entry will be disqualified.

 

Deadline for submission and how to enter.
To apply, you must first submit an abstract to the IADR 89th General Session & Exhibition in San Diego through the IADR website at www.iadr.org. Simultaneously select the Wrigley Salivary Research Award button. Winners will be selected among eligible applicants whose abstracts have been accepted under the normal IADR scientific review.

 

The deadline for abstract submissions is October 1, 2010.

 

The Awards.
Up to three awards will be given: one Clinical Salivary Research Award for dental scientists ($1,500), one Clinical Salivary Research Award for dental students ($1,500) and one Basic Salivary Research Award ($2,000) for a dental or non-dental student. These awards are intended to recognize excellent research and to assist with travel costs to attend the IADR 89th General Session & Exhibition in San Diego, California, March 16 – 19, 2011.

  

If no suitable abstracts are received for any of the three awards, no award will be made. The awards are non-transferable.

Hipoplasia del Esmalte Dentario

La hipoplasia del esmalte se define como un defecto del desarrollo de los tejidos duros del diente que ocurre antes de la erupción del mismo como resultado de un trastorno en la formación del esmalte. Este tejido es el más duro del organismo y está constituido por un 96% de minerales, principalmente apatitas, un 2% de sustancias orgánicas y un 2% de agua y algunos oligoelementos. En condiciones fisiológicas el esmalte dentario recubre la zona de las piezas dentarias expuestas al ambiente de la cavidad oral.

 

 
La etapa de calcificación de la dentición temporal comienza entre los cuatro y seis meses de vida y termina en la zona coronaria al año de edad, así cualquier trastorno que se presente en este período, durante el depósito de la matriz del esmalte o de la dentina, origina un defecto hipoplásico . Estos defectos o anomalías varían en gravedad y se manifiestan clínicamente en su forma más leve como pequeñas manchas blancuzcas u opacas aisladas y diminutas fositas hasta manchas marrones y fosas y escotaduras marcadas que dan al diente un aspecto corroído.

Los pacientes que presentan estos defectos son más vulnerables a desarrollar caries, sufrir fracturas coronarias e hiperestesia dentinaria, perdida de la dimensión vertical y perdida del espacio para el brote de los permanentes entre otros y por consiguiente afectaciones psicológicas y en su vida de relación social por alteraciones de la estética, la fonética y de la función masticatoria
